Oscar Pistorius is a South African former professional sprinter and Paralympic athlete, known for his achievements in track and field, as well as his controversial legal troubles. He was born on November 22, 1986, in Johannesburg, South Africa, and gained fame as a double amputee who competed in able-bodied events.

Pistorius made history by being the first amputee to compete at the Olympics, participating in the 400 meters and the 4x400 meter relay at the 2012 London Olympics. He won multiple gold medals at the Paralympic Games and was celebrated for breaking barriers in athletics.

However, his career took a tragic turn in February 2013 when he shot and killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in his home. Pistorius claimed he mistook her for an intruder, but the case attracted global media attention and raised significant legal and ethical questions. In 2014, he was convicted of culpable homicide and sentenced to five years in prison, but this was later increased to 13 years and five months after a successful appeal by the prosecution for a more severe sentence.

Pistorius's story is marked by both his athletic achievements and the serious legal consequences of his actions, making him a controversial figure in sports and beyond.
